Lab Results Blood Work Preventive Health

Your annual blood panel is one of the most valuable diagnostic windows into your health. Understanding what your results mean — and what they don't — helps you take informed action rather than unnecessary alarm.

In This Article

  1. 1 The Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  2. 2 The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
  3. 3 Lipid Panel: Beyond Total Cholesterol
  4. 4 Results in Context
01

The Complete Blood Count (CBC)

The CBC measures red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC), hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelets. Low RBC or hemoglobin may indicate anemia. Elevated WBC can signal infection or inflammation. Platelet counts help assess clotting risk. Most results exist on a spectrum, not a binary normal/abnormal.

02

The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)

The CMP assesses kidney function (creatinine, BUN), liver enzymes (ALT, AST), blood sugar (glucose), and electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium). Elevated liver enzymes may reflect medication effects, fatty liver, or alcohol use. Fasting glucose above 100 mg/dL may signal prediabetes.

03

Lipid Panel: Beyond Total Cholesterol

The lipid panel measures LDL ('bad' cholesterol), HDL ('good' cholesterol), triglycerides, and total cholesterol. Your LDL-to-HDL ratio matters more than any single number. Triglycerides above 150 mg/dL often correlate with diet quality and metabolic health.

04

Results in Context

Reference ranges are population averages — not absolute cutoffs. A result slightly outside range may be entirely appropriate for you given your age, sex, history, and symptoms. Synexsis Lab provides detailed panel reports, and your Pinnacle provider will interpret results holistically at your follow-up.
