What PCAB Accreditation Means
The Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) sets the highest voluntary quality standards for compounding pharmacies in the United States. To earn PCAB accreditation, a pharmacy must demonstrate full compliance with USP Chapter <795> and <797> standards, maintain rigorous clean-room protocols, document every compounding procedure with batch records, and pass a comprehensive on-site inspection by an independent accreditor.
The 18-Month Journey
Next Gen Pharmacy's PCAB process began in February 2025, led by Dr. Thomas Vélez and our compounding team. The process involved a complete physical renovation of our cleanrooms to meet USP <797> sterile compounding standards, implementation of electronic batch record software, and over 400 staff training hours on compounding procedures, sterility testing, and quality assurance protocols.
What This Means for Patients
PCAB-accredited pharmacies must meet standards far beyond state licensure minimums. For patients, this means every compounded medication from Next Gen Pharmacy has been prepared in a quality-verified environment, tested for potency and sterility where required, documented with a full batch record, and reviewed by a licensed pharmacist before dispensing. Your custom medication meets the same quality standard as a commercially manufactured drug.
Expanded Compounding Capabilities
In conjunction with accreditation, Next Gen Pharmacy has expanded its compounding menu to include sterile injectables, ophthalmic preparations, and veterinary sterile compounds — categories requiring the highest clean-room standards. These new capabilities are now available to Pinnacle providers and prescribers across the First Coast.
